THE EVOLUTION OF AN INNOVATION

The stereolith® owes its existence to the passionate intellectual curiosity of Swiss inventor Walter Schupbach.

Schupbach was born in the 1940s in the Swiss canton of Vaud on Lake Geneva. As a young man he loved music
and worked as a sound technician for theaters and concert halls.

In the 1970s, he became interested in the acoustic and physiological research of Alan Blumlein, Victor Brociner,
Rudolf Häusler, Sidney Levy and Jean Piaget, which inspired him to develop an authentic surround-sound system.

The result is a line of speakers that put his unique surround-sound concept into practice. In the 1980s, he founded
the stereolith company.

The result is a line of speakers that put his unique surround-sound concept into practice. In the 1980s, he founded
the stereolith company.

His invention was awarded the grand prize at the 1986 International Exhibition of Inventions in Geneva. In 1989, he
received the Diapason d’Or in Paris.

In the early 1990s, the Studer company secured the license for the stereolith® system. Walter Schupbach was
commissioned to develop a one-speaker surround-sound system for the famous Revox brand. The result was dubbed
the “Duetto.” Among audiophiles, the stereolith®/Revox speaker remains an icon to this day.

Since the turn of the millennium, the stereolith company has renewed its focus on marketing its own products, and
it continues to develop new models under the direction of Walter Schupbach. The latest model, the M 232,
represents the fifth generation of the stereolith® system, and further developments are in store. In the words of
Walter Schupbach:

“Hardly a day passes that I don’t get excited all over again about the pleasures of flawless surround-sound
experience. It is and remains my great passion and inspiration.”

HISTORY OF THE MODELL

Talking about the model history of the stereolith technology is like telling a swiss success story.

The very first model had gone public by the name "Schupbach SD-20", after his developer Walter Schupbach. It was available
from 1980 to 1985. Since 1986, when Mr. Schupbach registered the international trademark stereolith® , all subsequent
models carry this brand name.

Ever changing sizes and shapes of the speaker models reflect the continuous development of the product line. While the first model,
the SD-20, had the size of a footlocker, continuous improvement and technological advances lead to constantly smaller footprints
of our speakers. Regardless of all these differences in design or form factor, all stereolith speakers have their exclusive, patented
technology in common.
